The app never talks directly to your library system: the Prestalib service does, translating each transaction into the standard SIP2 protocol.

Prestalib’s services run in the cloud, outside the university network, and connect directly to your library system’s SIP2 service, which in most cases is also in the cloud. There is nothing to change on the university network and nothing to install on your servers.
Users sign in with their institutional account; we have integrated Microsoft Entra ID and university OAuth2 providers. With institutional sign-in, passwords stay with your identity provider, not with Prestalib.
HF RFID tags (ISO 15693), read with the phone’s NFC; the app changes the tag’s security state on checkout and return. Without RFID, it reads the barcode with the camera. Returns require reading a fixed return-point tag inside the library (we supply those tags): the phone’s location is not used.
IT checklist
One SIP2 account per library or site, with the minimum permissions for checkout, check-in, renewal and account information.
The address and port of your library system’s SIP2 service. If it is in the cloud, your vendor provides them.
App registration with your identity provider (for example Microsoft Entra ID) and a test account.
We supply the RFID tags for the return points, as many as you need. You only decide where to place them inside the library.
Publication on the App Store and Google Play is included, in your own Apple and Google developer accounts or in Prestalib’s, whichever you prefer.
A few test books and two or three staff phones to validate before launch.
Data protection
Prestalib acts as the university’s data processor under the GDPR and Spanish data protection law, and signs a data processing agreement with each university. The app shows users their own data (patron ID, name, loans, holds and fines), read from the library system and the sign-in provider. No special-category or location data is processed.
