RFID technology in Libraries

What is RFID technology?

RFID technology is essentially a form of wireless communication between a transmitter and a receiver using radio waves. In this way, it greatly facilitates the tasks of cataloging, identifying and locating all kinds of objects.

RFID has transformed library management and planning tasks and that’s why Prestalib software will allow you to make optimal use of this technology.

What characteristics and advantages does it have?

    • The reading is made without contact, using radio waves
    • Very versatile and applicable to many situations
    • Devices can contain the same identifying information as with a barcode, but…. In addition, they can reliably report other relevant and digitized data on the material: characteristics, components, status, conservation, location, status, data on transfer, transport, etc.
    • A direct line of sight isn’t necessary
    • Can be read through different objects
    • Data capture is fast
    • Can accompany the product throughout its life
    • It’s a system aimed at reducing or eliminating human intervention in certain operations: the so-called “0HIO” principle (Zero (0) Human Intervention in Operations)

How does Prestalib use this technology?

Using a mobile device as a reader that it is capable of detecting an RFID tag when it enters its range, it reads the information it contains, which will be processed by our software, and coordinated with your library’s management system, allowing it to carry out the tasks of borrowings, returns, and renewals.

In addition, the RFID system is coordinated with the library’s anti-theft system, allowing the alarm to be activated and deactivated from the same selfservice device.
